Episode 4 Vocabulary: 2025 Recap

Happy New Year everyone! We decided to end the year by talking about the most notable events of this year. Here's some key vocab from this week's episode.

Level 1 - Key Words
Trends - things that become popular in society (often for a short amount of time)
Debt - when you borrow money and have to pay it back, you are in debt
Brainrot (slang) - content online that is funny but has no meaning
For ages - for a long time
Originate - to begin existing
Level 2 - General vocabulary
Pretty much (casual) - another way of saying "basically, yes"
Feed - on social media, your "for you page" or screen of posts is called your feed
Hysteria - when someone goes insane, they are hysterical. Hysteria often refers to when a group of people all go insane over something
Proceeds - the money earned from an event
Banger (slang) - a good song
Transcend - to exceed
Made-up - not real, fake, imaginary
Pinnacle - the peak of something, the best part of something
-ization/-ification - a suffix added to existing words to make a new word, with the meaning of turning into or becoming something
Bleed into - to spread into
God knows how long - for a really long time
Credibility - how trustworthy or believable something is
Level 3 - Difficult/specific words and phrases
In a nutshell - in summary
Privy to (something) - aware of something that not everyone knows
Track record - someone's history of actions, e.g. "I have a bad track record with relationships"
In the midst (of) - during, in the middle of
Live in my brain rent free - a common phrase online, used when you think about something constantly. E.g. "Harry Styles lives in my brain rent free"
Drop off (slang) - to lose popularity
